I am an actress, musician, artist, and researcher with a 20-year journey at the Templo de Umbanda São Sebastião, exploring Afro-Brazilian, indigenous, and spiritualist traditions. My work with Grupo Teatral Parlendas enriched my art research, activism, and cultural exchange. As an Afro-Brazilian percussionist, I’ve studied the spiritual impact of the atabaque drum. Since 2014, I’ve shared ancestral knowledge globally. My multidisciplinary work has protected marginalized communities and enriched cultural understanding through global exchanges. My journey is about exploration, understanding, and making a positive impact.

Participation in rituals with the indigenous drink Ayahuasca has been gaining adherents worldwide. This study aims to investigate the participation of residents of the United States, in specifically Umbandaime rituals. Umbandaime is a hybridized ritual form, is the union between Santo Daime (Ayahuasqueira Amazonian religion) and Umbanda (Afro-Brazilian religion). It contains different lines of spiritual study, among them the development of mediumship, connection with ancestors, self-knowledge, and preservation of Afro-Brazilian roots. The present work seeks to analyze the Umbandaime approach as a possible instrument of recovery of and meeting with sociocultural and spiritual identity needs for participants from the U.S. who visit the Temple of Umbanda San Sebastian in Brazil.
